Video Message from the Zapatistas

Sep 21 2007 - 7:00pm
Sep 21 2007 - 9:00pm

The presentation will feature short video screenings including a self produced piece documenting a dialogue between the East Harlem based Movement for Justice in El Barrio (MJB) and the Zapatistas at an encuentro at the US/Mexican border, followed by a video response from the EZLN (Zapatista Army of National Liberation) first screened to the public during the US Social Forum in July. MJB will also talk about their work locally and how it relates to the larger struggle against neoliberalism (global capitalism).

Through this new interview with Subcomandante Marcos the Zapatistas send a message to people struggling for justice all over the world and include a special message for historically marginalized people including women, gays, lesbians, transgender and indigenous peoples and for immigrants in the U.S.

The Zapatistas have launched The Other Campaign to build a national grassroots movement ‘FROM BELOW AND FOR BELOW’ against neoliberalism and for humanity.

This visionary movement is a model for what is possible here in the U.S. Through the Sixth Declaration the Zapatistas have asked that the world walk with them in making this other world possible!!

This video was part of a dialogue with Movement for Justice in El Barrio: an organization of Mexican immigrants fighting against gentrification in NYC that is part of The Other Campaign.

As a truly revolutionary movement The Other Campaign is breaking down the barriers that divide people who struggle against different forms of oppression and is uniting all sectors of civil society in a movement that is a horizontal, inclusive, and visionary alternative that rejects the electoral process and embraces an entirely “Other” way of doing politics.
