The Lancaster Avenue Autonomous space has just freed up one of our recently fixed up offices and are looking for new collective members to fill it soon. LAVA is a collective of individuals and grassroots organizations committed to resisting oppression and transforming society by creating an open, respectfully run and cooperatively managed community space at 4134 Lancaster Ave. So we will generally give preference to new tenants who are involved in local community organizing and/or social justice work.
Some requirements for groups moving into LAVA:
As LAVA is run directly by those who use it, groups who use LAVA are required to send someone to the monthly meetings and claim an active part in the maintenance and governance of the building.
The costs of running LAVA are shared by the collective members, so all member groups are expected to chip in appropriately. Currently LAVA member groups contribute between $50 and $300 a month to the cost-share depending on ability to raise funds.
The room is roughly 10' by 10', on the 3rd floor and is not wheelchair accessible. It has a nice window and has recently been renovated.
